So, I can see sort of what GLSEN is trying to do with Ally Week, but it is being executed so poorly. I could see Ally Week working if it was meant to recruit allies, but instead they’re diverting attention from actual LGBT issues to thanking our allies. Try harder next time, plz.
That is what my college’s Queer Student Union is going to do with it. We will be tabling for a day or two, recruiting allies, getting people to sign the pledge, etc, and just generally raising awareness. It’s nothing fancy. It’s not an “ally party”. In the same month we’re doing all kinds of other queer related events. So like, although there may be shitty allies, there are shitty people in every group. Try to remember that.
